The allure of the world famous Taj Mahal is what attracts most people to Agra, and being within a three and a half hour journey from Delhi and approximately a five hour drive from Jaipur means that this is an easily accessible as well as a must see destination. The Taj Mahal, which is perched on the banks of the Yasuna River, has long been one of India’s most visited destinations, and you can find few mausoleums so photogenic and immense in both size and intricate detail. UNESCO aptly describe it as ‘the jewel of Muslim art in India’, we feel it’s one of the most beautiful buildings in the world. Long glassy pools and pristine gardens envelop the mausoleum, providing space for the throngs of people that visit each day. Other visitors cannot be avoided, so we simply recommend visiting at sunrise or sunset when The Taj Mahal is at its quietest and the light is at its best. The monument naturally dominates the scene in Agra, but both the Red Fort and Itmad-ud-Daulah (otherwise know as The Baby Taj) are hugely impressive and not to be missed either.
