Rohet sits on the edge of the Thar Desert just south of Jodhpur and is a great place to stop if travelling between Jodhpur and Udaipur. The area was originally a Bishnoi settlement, a local tribe attracted to the area due to the large lake that is now home to hundreds of birds. The area is very traditional and centred around farming, offering a peaceful place to relax or an interesting place to explore by jeep, on foot or by horse. The 375-year old fortified desert home known as Rohet Garh is now a boutique hotel owned and run by the Singh family. Rohet Garh, along with Mihir Garh and Wilderness Camp are all fantastic places to stay in the area.
