Sitting amidst seven acres of private estate and just 8km from Periyar National Park, Anavilasam Luxury Plantation Estate is a perfect boutique retreat and an ideal place to unwind if travelling between Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Owned by Salim Pushpanath, a photographer and publisher, Anavilasam provides a stylish stay that is understated and incredibly personal. There are only six rooms in total, divided into four different categories: Deluxe, Suite, Pool Villa and Presidential Villa. The Deluxe Rooms are beautifully decorated and more than adequate with a spacious airy interiors, en-suite bathrooms, four-poster beds and crisp white sheets. The Suites offer much more space with French doors that open up to an oversized living room with views of the surrounding hills. The Pool Suites are larger again and boast private pools whereas the Presidential Suite is simply enormous and completely private. There are plenty of things to do here including visiting Periyar National Park, enjoying bamboo rafting, taking part in a cookery demonstration and learning all about the spices grown on the estate. However, for many Anavilasam provides a relaxing break in tranquil surroundings, sometimes needed in the middle of an itinerary through South India.
